Methylation is a biochemical reaction that happens on a cellular level in the body that involves an addition of a methyl group (a small molecule made up of 4 atoms…1 carbon and 3 hydrogen) to an enzyme, proteins, amino acid, other molecules and DNA that can effect how that molecule will then act in the body. Consider that a “methyl group” is the key that turns the ignition (as it hands its methyl’s off) so that these enzymes, proteins, amino acids, molecules can then do what they are supposed to do to maintain homeostasis inside the body.
If the body isn't properly methylating (those methyls aren't being transferred) a person can end up with a host of chronic and acute medical issues, diagnosis and nutritional deficiencies. Correcting these methylation issues is possible with a proper understanding for the genetics, nutrition and biochemistry involved.
